Students Week of Accion

Join CAMEO for a national week of campus action against the war in Iraq. From September 17 - 22, universities, colleges, and high schools across the US will be demonstrating against war and racism and demanding Troops Out Now!

Robert Jensen on Academic Freedom and Norman Finkelstein
This past June, scholar and activist Norman Finkelstein, known for his criticism of the Israeli occupation of Palestine, was denied tenure at DePaul University. Then, at the end of August, students were informed that Finkelstein's classes had been cancelled. What went into these decisions? And what have students and professors been doing about it? UT Professor Robert Jensen will lead a discussion of the events and the broader question of academic freedom.

Presentation and discussion by Ali Issa, addressing the following questions: How has imperialism shaped Iraq? Has there always been sectarian conflict there? Are U.S. troops needed to keep stability? Find out what Iraq’s history can tell us about possibilities for Iraq’s future.

Presentation and Discussion by Robert McDonald. Find out the not-so-hidden relationship between the University and war. Learn how our tuition and research go towards supporting the war in Iraq and discuss what antiwar students can do.
